Acacia baileyana, commonly known as the Cootamundra Wattle, is a fast-growing evergreen tree prized for its feathery, silver-grey foliage and abundant clusters of bright golden-yellow flowers that appear in late winter to early spring. Its striking foliage and vibrant flowers make it a standout feature in any garden, adding a touch of softness and colour during the cooler months.
Ideal as a specimen tree, a screen, or part of a mixed border in Mediterranean, native, or wildlife-friendly gardens. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating dry conditions once established. Space trees at least 4–5 metres apart if planting in groups to accommodate their spreading canopy.
At maturity, Acacia baileyana grows to approximately 6–10 metres in height and 4–6 metres in width, forming a rounded and graceful silhouette. Regular pruning after flowering helps maintain its shape and encourages new growth. Note: In some regions, it may self-seed freely, so monitor for unwanted spread.
