Azalea Anniversary Joy

Azalea Anniversary Joy is a compact evergreen azalea celebrated for its vivid rose-pink flowers, each with a soft frilled edge and a darker central blotch. Flowering in mid to late Spring, the vibrant clusters create a cheerful burst of colour above its dense, glossy green foliage.

Ideal for shaded borders, woodland gardens, or containers, Anniversary Joy thrives in part shade with moist, well-drained, acidic soil. It requires regular watering, especially in dry periods, and protection from intense afternoon sun. Space 70–90cm apart to allow for natural, bushy growth.

Reaches around 1m tall and 1m wide at maturity, forming a neat, floriferous shrub with bright seasonal appeal.

Trimming: Lightly prune just after flowering to maintain shape and remove any dead or straggly growth. Avoid hard pruning, as azaleas flower on old wood.

Deadheading: Remove spent flowers by hand to tidy the plant and encourage better flowering the following season.

Fertilising: Use an acid-loving plant fertiliser in early spring and again after flowering. Avoid overfeeding, as this can damage roots.

Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during establishment and dry periods. Azaleas prefer cool, moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Mulch annually to retain moisture and regulate temperature.

Pest Control: Watch for lace bugs, thrips, and spider mites—especially in warm, dry weather. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil.

Disease Management: Susceptible to petal blight and root rot. Remove affected flowers or foliage promptly, and ensure good drainage and airflow. Avoid overhead watering to help prevent fungal issues.
