Title Default Title

Azalea Glamour Girl is a compact evergreen azalea valued for its reliable spring flowering and tidy, mounded habit. The blooms are generous and cover the plant in a dense display from around September through to November. This is a well-regarded azalea with a neat growth form that suits smaller spaces without losing presence. Mature size is typically around 0.8 to 1m high and wide.

This azalea fits naturally into a cottage garden or a Japanese-style planting. Use it in groups for a full massed effect, or place single plants to brighten a shaded border or entranceway. It also performs well in containers on a deck or courtyard. Pairing it with white or soft-toned azaleas creates a pleasing contrast in spring.

Grow Azalea Glamour Girl in part shade, or in morning sun with afternoon shade. It needs free-draining, acidic soil enriched with compost. Mulch the base to keep roots cool and retain moisture. Avoid exposed, hot positions, which can stress the shallow root system.

Water consistently through the first summer and during dry spells. Trim lightly after flowering to keep the shape tidy. Like all azaleas and rhododendrons, this plant is toxic to cats, dogs, and horses if eaten, so take care in households with pets.

Trimming: Trim lightly immediately after flowering finishes in late spring. Azaleas flower on old wood, so keep pruning light and shaping only. Remove any dead or crossing stems at this time.

Deadheading: Deadheading is not essential. You can remove spent blooms by hand to tidy the plant, but leaving them does no harm to its health or next season's flowering.

Fertilising: Feed in spring with a fertiliser formulated for azaleas, camellias, and rhododendrons. A second light feed after flowering supports fresh growth. Avoid overfeeding, as the shallow roots are sensitive to excess nutrients.

Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist through the growing season, particularly over summer. Water deeply during dry spells rather than little and often. A layer of mulch helps retain moisture and protects the root zone.

Pest Control: Watch for aphids, thrips, two-spotted mite, and scale insects. Check leaf undersides regularly and treat early with a suitable spray or horticultural oil if numbers build.

Disease Management: Free-draining soil and good airflow around the plant prevent most problems. Avoid waterlogged conditions, which invite Phytophthora root rot. Clear fallen leaves and spent flowers to reduce the risk of petal blight and leaf gall. Pick off any pale, swollen galls and dispose of them in the bin, not the compost.
