Pest Control: Watch for aphids, thrips, two-spotted mite, and scale insects. Check leaf undersides regularly and treat early with a suitable spray or horticultural oil if numbers build.

Disease Management: Good drainage and airflow prevent most problems. Wet or heavy soil encourages Phytophthora root rot, so ensure free-draining conditions at planting. Watch for petal blight in humid springs and clear fallen leaves and spent flowers to reduce fungal risk. Pale swollen leaf galls can appear on azaleas; pick them off and bin them rather than composting.
