Camellia CM Hovey is a captivating evergreen shrub, known for its charming flowers and lustrous dark green foliage. This variety produces exquisite, small to medium-sized, double flowers in a vibrant shade of dark pink. Flowering from late winter to early spring, the flowers create a delightful contrast against the glossy leaves, adding a touch of elegance to any garden.

CM Hovey is a versatile plant, suitable for various garden styles, including traditional cottage gardens, modern landscapes, and woodland settings. Its attractive foliage and vibrant flowers make it an ideal choice for mixed borders, foundation plantings, or as a standalone specimen. This camellia thrives in partial shade and prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil with consistent moisture. It benefits from a sheltered position to protect it from harsh winds and direct, scorching sunlight.

For optimal growth, space CM Hovey plants about 1.5 to 2 metres apart. Mature shrubs can reach a height and spread of 1.5 to 2 metres, forming a dense and gracefully shaped plant. With its enchanting flowers and glossy foliage, Camellia CM Hovey is an excellent choice for adding year-round beauty and seasonal interest to your garden.

Trimming: Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushy growth. Remove any dead or damaged branches to keep the plant healthy.

Deadheading: Remove spent flowers to promote new flowers and maintain a tidy appearance.

Fertilising: Apply a specialised camellia or acid-loving plant fertiliser in early spring and again in mid-summer. Avoid over-fertilising to prevent damage to the roots.

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the establishment phase and dry periods. Camellias prefer well-drained, acidic soil. Mulch to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.

Pest Control: Watch for aphids, scale insects, and spider mites. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil.

Disease Management: Be vigilant for signs of root rot, petal blight, and leaf gall. Ensure good air circulation, avoid overhead watering, and apply appropriate fungicides if necessary. Remove and dispose of any infected plant material responsibly.
