Camellia Paradise Diana

Camellia japonica Paradise Diana is a striking evergreen shrub known for its rich, rose-pink, formal double flowers that appear from late winter through to early spring. Each flower is beautifully symmetrical, with neatly layered petals that contrast against glossy, dark green foliage. This variety is a reliable performer, offering a refined burst of colour when much of the garden remains dormant.

Ideal for hedging, feature planting, or containers, this camellia suits structured and contemporary gardens as well as classic woodland and shaded courtyard spaces.

Thrives in partial shade with shelter from strong winds. Prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil that retains moisture. Space plants approximately 1.2 to 1.5 metres apart when planting as a hedge or screen.

Mature Size: Reaches approximately 2 to 3 metres tall and 1.5 to 2 metres wide with a naturally upright, bushy habit.

Trimming: Lightly trim after flowering to shape and maintain a compact form, especially if grown as a hedge. Avoid heavy pruning, as this may reduce next season’s flowering.

Deadheading: Not necessary, as camellia flowers naturally drop when spent.

Fertilising: Feed with an acid-loving fertiliser in early spring after flowering, and again in late summer. Avoid lime-based products to maintain soil acidity.

Watering: Keep well-watered during the establishment phase and throughout dry periods, particularly in summer and early autumn. Mulching helps retain soil moisture.

Pest Control: Watch for scale insects and aphids. Treat infestations with horticultural oil or insecticidal soap.

Disease Management: Look out for leaf spot and petal blight—remove affected flowers and foliage promptly. Ensure good airflow and avoid overhead watering to reduce fungal issues.
