This NZ native is perfect for adding architectural interest, Cordyline Purple Tower is well-suited to contemporary, tropical, and formal garden styles. It can be used in mixed borders, as a standalone feature, or in large containers. Its tolerance of salt and wind makes it especially suitable for coastal gardens. This hardy, low-maintenance plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil with moderate moisture and is adaptable to various soil types.
Cordyline Purple Tower will perform best when spaced about 1-1.5m apart, allowing ample room for its impressive foliage to spread.
At maturity, Cordyline Purple Tower reaches a height of 3 to 4 metres and spread of approximately 2m.
Trimming: Remove any dead or damaged leaves to keep the plant looking neat. Trim back any overgrown stems to encourage bushier growth.
Fertilising: Use a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. Avoid over-fertilising to prevent leaf scorch and nutrient burn.
Watering: Water consistently during the establishment phase and during periods of extreme dryness. Ensure the soil is well-draining, and let the top layer dry out between waterings to avoid root rot.
Pest Control: Keep an eye out for common pests like spider mites and aphids. If infestations occur, treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil, making sure to cover all leaf surfaces.
Disease Management: Cordyline Purple Tower is generally resistant to diseases. However, be cautious of root rot; ensure proper drainage and adjust watering practices if symptoms appear.
