Feijoa Unique

Feijoa Unique is a self-fertile variety of feijoa that produces prolific amounts of medium-size fruit with smooth, juicy flesh. Great for fertilising other varieties of feijoa. Grows to 3m tall and spreads to 2.5m. Needs full sun and moist soil. Evergreen. Also makes a stunning hedge. 

Trimming: Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and remove any dead or damaged branches. For fruit production, remove any interior branches that are crowding the centre to allow light penetration and air circulation.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring and again in midsummer to support healthy growth and fruit production. An additional potassium-rich fertiliser can help enhance fruiting.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase. Once established, Feijoa Unique is relatively drought-tolerant but benefits from consistent moisture during the flowering and fruiting periods. Deep watering once a week during dry spells is recommended.

Pest Control: Monitor for common pests such as scale insects and aphids. Use insecticidal soap or horticultural oil to manage infestations. Hand-pick larger pests like caterpillars if necessary.

Disease Management: Feijoa Unique is generally disease-resistant but can be susceptible to root rot in poorly drained soils. Ensure well-drained soil and avoid overwatering. If leaf spots or other fungal issues appear, remove affected foliage and apply a suitable fungicide. Regularly inspect the plant for any signs of disease and maintain good garden hygiene to prevent problems.
