Hebe Violet Cushion

Hebe Violet Cushion is a compact, hardy, evergreen shrub known for its neat, mounding habit and vibrant violet-purple flowers that appear from late Spring through to mid-Autumn. Its small, glossy green leaves form a dense cushion-like shape, making it an attractive low-growing feature with long-lasting colour.

This hardy variety is ideal for borders, rockeries, and container planting, and suits coastal, cottage, or contemporary gardens. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil with moderate moisture. Space plants about 50 cm apart for best coverage and airflow.

Trimming: Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a compact, cushion-like shape and encourage dense new growth. Avoid cutting into old wood.

Deadheading: Not essential, but removing spent flower spikes can neaten the plant and may encourage light repeat flowering.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to support strong growth and vibrant flowering.

Watering: Water regularly while the plant establishes, and during prolonged dry periods. Ensure soil is free-draining to avoid root issues.

Pest Control: Monitor for aphids and scale insects. Use insecticidal soap or horticultural oil for treatment if required.

Disease Management: Prevent root rot by ensuring good drainage. Watch for signs of powdery mildew in humid conditions—remove affected foliage and apply a suitable fungicide if necessary.
