Helleborus Penny's Pink is a bold, evergreen perennial known for its vibrant rose-pink flowers that appear from late Winter through to mid-Spring. The upright blooms are beautifully set against marbled green foliage flushed with silver, offering long-lasting colour and strong structure in shaded garden spaces.
Ideal for woodland, cottage, or contemporary gardens, Helleborus Penny's Pink is perfect for underplanting, shaded borders, or container planting. It thrives in partial to full shade with moist, free-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Space approximately 40-50 cm apart to allow for healthy growth and airflow.
Forms a dense, clump-forming plant approximately 45 cm high and 60 cm wide.
Trimming: Cut back old and damaged foliage in late winter or early spring before new flowers and leaves emerge. This tidies the plant and helps reduce fungal issues.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers as they fade to maintain a neat appearance and prevent unwanted self-seeding.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. A second light feed in late summer can encourage strong root growth and support flower development for the following season.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, Penny’s Pink is moderately drought tolerant but benefits from deep watering during extended dry periods.
Pest Control: Keep an eye out for aphids, particularly on new growth and flower stems-treat with insecticidal soap if necessary. Slugs and snails may also target young foliage, especially in damp conditions.
Disease Management: Watch for Hellebore leaf spot. Remove affected leaves promptly and dispose of them to prevent spread. Ensure good air circulation, avoid overhead watering, and clear away old foliage annually to minimise fungal problems.
