Hydrangea 'Bombshell' is a compact, deciduous shrub known for its abundant clusters of small, pure white flowers that gradually age to soft pink as the season progresses. Flowering from early summer well into autumn, the tightly packed flower heads sit above neatly mounded, mid-green foliage. With a tidy, rounded habit reaching just 90 to 120 cm high and wide, it is ideal for cottage, coastal, formal, and low-maintenance garden styles, as well as containers.

Plant in full sun to partial shade with moist, free-draining, humus-rich soil. Performs best with regular watering, especially during dry periods. Space plants 70 to 90 cm apart. Remove spent flower heads to tidy, and prune lightly in late winter or early spring to maintain shape. A prolific and compact flowering shrub perfect for adding long-lasting seasonal colour to smaller garden spaces.

Trimming: Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Cut back old flower heads and shorten stems to shape the plant and encourage compact, bushy growth. As ‘Bombshell’ flowers on new wood, pruning won’t affect flowering.

Deadheading: Remove spent flower heads during the season to maintain a neat appearance, though not strictly necessary for reflowering.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. In nutrient-poor soils, a second light feed in mid-summer may support strong flowering and healthy foliage.

Watering: Water regularly during establishment and throughout dry spells. Hydrangea ‘Bombshell’ prefers consistently moist, well-drained soil. Mulch annually to help retain moisture and regulate root temperature.

Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Watch for aphids or spider mites in hot, dry conditions - treat early with insecticidal soap if needed.

Disease Management: Ensure good air circulation to prevent powdery mildew and leaf spot. Avoid overhead watering and remove any diseased or discoloured foliage promptly. Ensure soil drains well to avoid root rot.
