Fertilising: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in early spring to encourage healthy growth and abundant flowering. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which promotes leafy growth at the expense of flowers.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Once established, water during extended dry periods, particularly in summer, as hydrangeas perform best with even soil moisture.

Pest Control: Watch for aphids, slugs, snails, and two-spotted spider mites during hot, dry weather. Treat aphids and mites with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil if required, and manage slugs and snails with traps or suitable bait.

Disease Management: Monitor for powdery mildew, botrytis (grey mould), and leaf spot, especially in humid or poorly ventilated conditions. Improve air circulation, avoid wetting the foliage when watering, remove affected leaves or flowers promptly, and apply an appropriate fungicide if infections become severe.
