Magnolia Fairy Cream

Trimming: Trim Magnolia ‘Fairy Cream’ lightly after flowering, only if needed, to maintain shape or remove dead, damaged, or crossing growth. Avoid heavy pruning, as magnolias prefer minimal disturbance and can be slow to recover.

Deadheading: Deadheading is not required, but spent flowers may be removed to tidy the plant if accessible.

Fertilising: Feed in spring with a slow-release fertiliser suitable for trees and shrubs, or apply compost around the base. Keep mulch and fertiliser clear of the trunk.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase to help develop a strong root system. Once established, provide deep watering during extended dry periods, especially in hot or windy conditions.

Pest control: Watch for scale, aphids, thrips, and mites. Signs include sticky honeydew, sooty mould, distorted growth, silvering leaves, or fine webbing. Treat light infestations with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil, and improve airflow where possible.

Disease management: Look out for leaf spot, powdery mildew, and root rot in poorly drained soils. Signs include spotted leaves, white powdery growth, yellowing foliage, wilting, or poor vigour.
