Melicytus obovatus

Melicytus obovatus is a versatile shrub native to the Cook Strait and Takaka regions of New Zealand. Its leaves exhibit variations depending on the plant's location and age, with twigs speckled for added visual interest. The leaves grow up to 5cm long, showcasing a network of veins more visible on the paler underside and their edges can be smooth or wavy. The shrub produces small, bell-shaped hanging flowers, adding beauty to its appearance. At maturity, Melicytus obovatus reaches a size appropriate for a shrub and its fruit is white with attractive purple blotches.
