Pittosporum Snow Leopard

Pittosporum Snow Leopard is a striking evergreen shrub grown for its glossy, variegated foliage, with rich green leaves edged in creamy white. The bold leaf pattern brightens borders year-round, and in spring it may produce small, subtly scented flowers nestled within the foliage. Its dense, upright habit makes it a versatile choice for screening, hedging, or as a feature shrub.

Perfect for coastal, modern, or cottage garden styles, Snow Leopard thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soil, though it adapts well to most conditions once established. It tolerates wind and light coastal exposure, and regular trimming will encourage a thicker, tidier hedge. Space plants 80 cm to 1.2 m apart for hedging or screening, or 1.5 m apart as individual shrubs.

Mature size: Reaches around 2-3 m in height and 1.5-2 m in width, forming a dense, upright shrub.

Trimming: Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to maintain its upright, compact shape and encourage dense growth. For hedging or topiary, trim as needed during the growing season, but avoid cutting into old, bare wood.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in early spring. In poor soils, a second feed in mid to late summer can support healthy, vibrant foliage.

Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, it is relatively drought-tolerant but will benefit from occasional deep watering in extended dry periods. Ensure soil is well drained.

Pest Control: Generally pest-resistant. Monitor for aphids or scale on new growth and treat with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil if needed.

Disease Management: Ensure good airflow and avoid waterlogged soil to prevent fungal issues or root rot. Remove any yellowing or damaged foliage promptly to maintain plant health and appearance.
