Rose Silver Fern

'Silver Fern' is a striking hybrid tea rose known for its silvery-white petals with a soft blush of pink at the centre, creating a timeless beauty. Its flowers are full and fragrant, blooming from late spring through to early autumn. The glossy green foliage complements the flowers, adding depth and contrast to the plant's overall appearance. This rose is ideal for garden borders, cottage gardens, or as a standalone feature in formal settings. It also makes a wonderful addition to cutting gardens, providing stunning stems for floral arrangements. Plant it in a sunny position with well-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Ensure adequate spacing for good air circulation to promote healthy growth. At maturity, 'Silver Fern' typically reaches 1–1.2 metres in height and spreads to about 80 cm, creating an upright, bushy habit.

Trimming: Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth starts. Remove dead, weak, or crossing stems to improve airflow and structure. Lightly trim after the first flowering flush to encourage repeat blooms.

Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to promote continuous flowering. Cut just above a healthy leaf set to stimulate new growth.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced rose fertiliser in early spring as new growth appears. Feed again after the first major flowering and once more in late summer to support healthy blooms.

Watering: Water deeply once or twice a week during dry spells, ensuring the soil stays moist but well-drained. Newly planted roses need consistent watering until established.

Pest Control: Watch for aphids, spider mites, and thrips. Use insecticidal soap, neem oil, or encourage natural predators like ladybirds to manage infestations.

Disease Management: Susceptible to black spot and powdery mildew. Improve air circulation by spacing plants properly and removing fallen leaves. Apply a fungicide if needed and avoid overhead watering to reduce disease risk.
