Strelitzia parvifolia
Free Shipping on Orders $250 or more
Strelitzia parvifolia is a compact bird of paradise species, admired for its upright, paddle-shaped leaves and bold, structural form. Smaller than other Strelitzia varieties, it delivers tropical character without dominating a space.
This versatile plant works well as a feature in garden beds, grouped for structure, or grown in large containers. It is also highly suited to life indoors, where its striking foliage brings a modern, architectural touch to bright living spaces. Outdoors it complements subtropical, coastal, and contemporary landscapes.
Plant in full sun to part shade with free-draining soil. Indoors, position in a brightly lit room, ideally near a north- or west-facing window. Prefers moderate moisture, with soil allowed to dry slightly between waterings. Space 1–1.5 m apart if planting in groups outside.
Mature size: Forms a neat clump reaching around 1.5–2 m tall and 1–1.5 m wide.
Trimming: Remove old or damaged leaves and spent flower stems at the base in late winter or early spring.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage continued flowering.
Fertilising: Apply a slow-release fertiliser in spring to support healthy foliage and flowers.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, allow soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Check occasionally for common garden pests.
Disease Management: Avoid waterlogged soils to prevent root rot. Remove any yellowing or damaged foliage.
