Carex dipsacea, commonly known as reed sedge, is a perennial grass-like plant native to New Zealand. It features a clump-forming habit with arching, dark green leaves that have a slightly glossy appearance. This sedge is known for its adaptability and subtle beauty, producing brownish flower spikes that add texture and interest to its form.

In the garden, Carex dipsacea is excellent for mass plantings, as an understory plant in woodland settings, or for adding texture and movement in mixed borders. It can also be used effectively in rain gardens or along water features, where it can tolerate moist conditions. Reed sedge is well-suited to modern and naturalistic garden designs, providing a lush, green presence and year-round interest.
