Griselinia Broadway Mint is a variety of the New Zealand native Griselinia littoralis, featuring larger, glossy, apple-green leaves. This evergreen shrub or small tree is highly regarded for its robust growth, dense foliage, and suitability for creating lush, formal hedges or screens.

Griselinia Broadway Mint is particularly valued for its fast growth rate and its ability to form a dense, neatly shaped hedge. It provides excellent privacy and wind protection, making it ideal for boundary plantings or as a shelterbelt, especially in coastal and exposed sites where it exhibits strong salt and wind tolerance.

Thriving in full sun to partial shade, Broadway Mint adapts to a wide range of soil conditions, preferring well-drained soils. It is relatively drought-tolerant once established, reducing the need for frequent watering.

For effective hedging, plants should be spaced approximately 75-100cm apart. This allows them to grow together and form a continuous, dense barrier, while also ensuring each plant has sufficient space to develop a healthy root system.

Mature Griselinia Broadway Mint can reach a height of 3-5m and a width of 2-3m, making it a substantial yet manageable choice for gardens and landscapes.

Trimming: Regularly trim Griselinia Broadway Mint to maintain its shape and encourage bushy growth. Prune in late winter or early spring, removing any dead or damaged branches.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring to support healthy growth. An additional feed in midsummer can be beneficial.

Watering: Ensure consistent watering during the establishment phase, typically the first year after planting. Once established, water during extended dry periods, particularly in summer.

Pest Control: Watch for aphids and scale insects. If found, treat with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil.

Disease Management: Keep an eye out for root rot and leaf spot. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot and remove any affected leaves promptly to control leaf spot. If necessary, use a fungicide as per the instructions.
