Ophiopogon japonicus, commonly known as Mondo grass or Japanese mondo grass, is a perennial, evergreen plant that forms dense clumps of dark green, grass-like leaves. This low-growing groundcover is valued for its lush, tufted appearance and is often used in gardens for its texture and versatility.

Mondo grass is ideal for edging paths or garden beds, filling spaces between stepping stones, or creating a ground cover in shaded areas. It complements a variety of garden styles, including Japanese, contemporary, and woodland gardens, providing a neat, carpet-like effect that enhances the overall garden design.

Preferring partial to full shade, Ophiopogon japonicus thrives in moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. It is relatively drought-tolerant once established but benefits from regular watering during dry periods to maintain its vibrant appearance.
