Ophiopogon Kyoto is a very compact and slow-growing variety of mondo grass. It features delicate, fine-textured, dark green leaves that form tight, low clumps, making it an exquisite choice for groundcover, rock gardens, and detailed garden settings like miniature landscapes and fairy gardens.

Kyoto is particularly well-suited for creating a lush underplanting in shaded garden areas or for softening the edges of pathways and borders. Its very small size and dense growth habit make it ideal for filling in between stepping stones, where it can tolerate light foot traffic and create a continuous carpet of green.

This plant thrives best in partial to full shade, in moist, well-drained soil. While it is somewhat drought-tolerant once established, maintaining consistent moisture will help keep its foliage lush and vibrant.

For planting, consider spacing Kyoto dwarf mondo grass about 10-20cm apart. This allows the plants to eventually merge into a seamless, low-growing mat, providing excellent ground coverage and weed suppression.

With a mature height of only about 30cm, Ophiopogon Kyoto is one of the smallest mondo grass varieties. Its ability to form dense mats of foliage makes it a top choice for adding texture and greenery to garden designs, especially in spaces where a delicate, refined appearance is desired.
