Teucrium fruticans, commonly known as bush or silver germander, is an attractive evergreen shrub known for its silver-grey foliage and pale blue flowers. The plant has a relaxed, sprawling habit with branches that can be pruned into a more formal shape if desired, making it versatile for various garden designs.

In the garden, Teucrium fruticans is excellent for creating informal hedges, and borders, or as a specimen plant in Mediterranean or drought-tolerant landscapes. Its silver foliage and soft blue flowers provide a cooling effect in the garden and can be used to create contrast with darker green plants or as a unifying element in a garden with silver-themed foliage.

Bush germander thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. It is particularly suited to dry conditions, making it an excellent choice for water-wise gardens. The plant can tolerate coastal conditions and is relatively low-maintenance once established. For hedge planting, a spacing of about 60cm apart is ideal to allow for air circulation and room for each plant to develop fully.

The mature size for Teucrium fruticans is about 1.5m in height and width, though it can be kept smaller with regular pruning. This size makes it suitable for both small and large garden spaces, providing year-round interest with its foliage and seasonal interest with its delicate flowers.
